Invisalign® aligners are a series of custom-made clear orthodontic braces. They cover your teeth and move the teeth through calculated, controlled movements to straighten them. They are removable and are much less noticeable than metal braces.
5 Types of common tooth misalignment that Invisalign® can resolve – should this be put in first section of “What is invisalign”
Overcrowding is a common teeth misalignment which occurs due to lack of space in the oral cavity for the teeth. This makes the teeth grow to be crooked and/or overlap with each other. This creates an overcrowded atmosphere in the mouth and can lead to poor oral hygiene due to the inability to clean the teeth efficiently.
Fun Dental Fact: Crowding doesn’t happen because our teeth are too big for our jaws, it’s because our jaws are too small for our teeth.
It is normal to have a slight overlap between the upper and lower front teeth. However, in a deep overbite, the upper jaw has a large overlap that causes the upper teeth to bite down on the gums of the bottom teeth. This usually occurs when someone has a weak chin that affects the shape of their face and jaw. Deep overbites can lead to clenching and grinding of the teeth, which can cause discomfort and headaches.
This is where there is spacing (gaps) present between the teeth. These spaces usually appear between the two upper or lower front teeth – this is known as a Diastema. A diastema usually happens due to reasons such as:
A diastema isn’t seen as a ‘dental problem’ they are usually harmless and need no correction. Some people see a diastema as a characteristic that adds personality to their smile, like Madonna for example.
This is when the upper teeth bite down on the insides of the lower teeth, this can also be known as a negative overjet. Common dental complaints we hear that relate to a crossbite are “my chin protrudes out”, “my front teeth bite on each other” or “I can’t bite on my back teeth properly”.
A crossbite can happen on either side of the jaw and it affects both the front and back teeth. Crossbites usually occur due to a dental or skeletal problem, or both. These can be caused by habits, bone structure, airway issues, or genetics. Untreated crossbites can affect more than just the teeth, they can cause issues in the jaw. It makes the jaw muscles work at an uneven rate, which causes temporomandibular joint disorder, it can cause headaches and pain in the jaw, neck, or shoulders.
This is where the upper teeth horizontally protrude past the bottom teeth. A common dental complaint we hear that relates to protrusion is ‘my front teeth are sticking out’.
The protrusion of teeth can cause speech problems and make it difficult to consume food, this is due to the fact it can prevent correct biting and chewing.
Protrusion is a dental condition that is usually caused by skeletal issues with the lower jaw, mainly in those who have a growth deficiency. Overbites can cause irreparable soft tissue damage and also contribute to early tooth loss from excessive wear of the teeth. Besides overjets having functional side effects, they can also affect the aesthetics of the smile. Overjets can look unpleasant to the eye, this can affect a person’s psychological and emotional state.
Protruded teeth commonly come in conjunction with patients with narrow arches, habits of tongue thrusting, swallowing and breathing improperly, phonetic problems – such as enunciating certain words and sounds like F and V, and allergies.
If we catch these issues early enough (as early as the age of 6), SmileBox can assist in correcting them using orthodontic treatment such as EF(– HYPERLINK TO EF PAGE), muscle and jaw physiotherapy, and breathing exercises.

There are many bronze, silver, and gold providers. However, only a few Orthodontists qualify to become Invisalign® Platinum Providers. At SmileBox we can proudly say we are an Invisalign® Platinum Provider.
The Invisalign® provider levels start at Bronze, this level shows that the Orthodontist has completed a small number of Invisalign® cases, they can then progress to Silver, Gold, and then eventually Platinum status. What are the types of Invisalign® consultations that we offer?
At SmileBox we provide 3 types of consultation options for our patients. This gives you the freedom to choose which consultation best suits your lifestyle. Our consultations give you the information you require to make informed decisions about your treatment with us.
Our Invisalign® Full Consultation Package at SmileBox Dental Clinic is the gold standard of consultations. This consultation is done face-to-face in one of our modern Clinics.
This consultation takes around 1 hour, so please allow extra time for your dental appointment.
We will make sure you feel comfortable for the entire duration of your time spent in our clinic, you can use our relaxation lounge which is equipped with a refreshment bar.
You will have your consultation in our luxury private consultation room.
Prior to your FCP appointment, you will be contacted by one of our SmileExperts, you will be asked to send photos of your teeth. We will send you example photos to follow.
You will also be asked to send any relevant supporting information to us, such as previous dental or health records.
Your photos and information that you send to us will be assessed by one of our Doctors prior to your appointment, this is to determine the most suitable treatment options available to you and the costs, this is so they can be discussed with you at your appointment.
1. Access to Thailand’s first Invisalign Zone
You also get to take advantage of Thailand’s first Invisalign® Zone which is in our clinics’ relaxation lounge. Our Invisalign® Zone allows you to see an immediate simulation of the before and after of your teeth from using Invisalign®, these results will also be sent to your email so that you can keep these for your own records.
2. Cephalogram and Panoramic X-rays
You will have x-rays taken by one of our Dental Nurses when you come into the clinic.
The Cephalogram x-ray is done to view your facial profile from the side (side view). This is taken to see if there is any misalignment of the teeth and jaw, to assess the face shape (normal, short, long), to see if there are any teeth that may require extracting, to create a Bimler Ceph (see Bimler Analysis) and to look at the nasolabial angle (between the base of the nose and the lip).
Your Cephalogram x-rays and side view photos are then merged and calibrated for a full analysis. We ensure that your photos and x-rays are of the same dimension and angle to help analyse the side profile, this is to ensure we have the correct relationship between the nose, lips, and chin.
The Panoramic x-ray is taken to see if there are any impacted teeth such as the wisdom teeth, if there are too many teeth (supernumerary teeth), if there are any teeth missing (hypodontia), to evaluate the level and thickness of the bone and the shape and normality of the jaw joint.
3. Examination and oral health assessment
This is a full dental examination and oral tissue examination where the Doctor will look for any dental problems that may require further treatment such as restorations, extractions, or root canal treatment. You will also receive a Scale and Polish to remove any calculus, plaque, and staining.
The alignment of your teeth will also be examined. This is where the Doctor will look at how you bite together, the anatomy of your bone structure and teeth, and whether you have any crowding, spacing, a crossbite, or any other orthodontic problems.
4. Jaw joint examination
Your mouth opening limit will be assessed (this should be 40mm or 3 fingers width), along with checking for any jaw deviation upon opening and closing the mouth. Our doctors will also check for the side movement limit of your jaw (should be 10mm on each side), and if there are any abnormal clicking sounds in the joints – this involves the Doctor using his fingers to feel the joints on your face and potentially placing their pinky (little) finger into your ear.
If there are any issues found, this could mean you have joint problems (TMD – Temporomandibular Disorder), and these need resolving before you have any orthodontic treatment.
5. Facial muscle examination
This involves inspecting your face, looking at symmetry and any asymmetry at rest, during conversations, and testing the various facial muscles (you will have to pull some questionable faces and make some sounds, we promise you it’s all part of the plan 😉).
6. Swallowing and respiratory examination
This is where the Doctor examines your swallowing and respiratory behaviour and checks to see if there is a medical history of any allergies. Swallowing and respiratory issues can lead to future or current problems with the position of the tongue, breathing, and the alignment of the teeth.
7. Bimler Analysis
The Bimler Analysis is an in-depth analysis of the face and teeth structure to understand the jawline, the relationship between the nose, lips, and chin, whether you need any extractions, and whether any other auxiliaries are required in your treatment (such as plates). This involves accurately measuring the length and position of both the upper and lower jaw to determine their individual alignment.
8. Intra-oral and Extra-oral Photographs and Videos
Your Doctor or Smile Specialist will take intraoral and extraoral photos/videos of your teeth, facial anatomy, smile, and side profile. These photos are used for your dental record and photo calibration for use when creating your personalised Invisalign® treatment plan.
10. Smile Report
You will receive a smile report done by one of our Dental Nurses or Doctors. This is created using our state-of-the-art iTero 5D Scanner
Your Dental Nurse or Doctor will scan your teeth, mouth anatomy, and soft tissues. You will then be able to see the before and after simulation of your teeth after Invisalign® within a few minutes. Your scan will be used to send to the laboratory for diagnostic models of your teeth to be fabricated.
Your Smile Report or your simulation can then be printed out or e-mailed to you so you can keep it in your personal records. You are also able to record your own video of the simulation using your mobile phone or camera.
The consultation itself is ฿2,500 THB and there is a ฿300 THB instrument sterilisation fee, this is deductible from the overall treatment price.
We offer an Invisalign® Express consultation package at SmileBox Dental Clinic. This consultation is done face-to-face in one of our modern Clinics.

You will be sent the Google Meet link prior to your appointment, if you have any questions or technical difficulties accessing the link, you can contact our SmileExperts and they will be happy to help (they’re tech wizards 🧙😉).
The virtual consultation lasts up to 30 minutes and has a ฿500 THB fee, this is non-deductible from the treatment price.
After your virtual consultation, you will speak with one of our SmileExperts, either the same day or at a later date. You can decide if you would like to go ahead with treatment at SmileBox and we can book you into the clinic for the next stage of your appointment. This would be a face-to-face consultation with x-rays, photographs, and iTero scanning.
This is an important stage of your orthodontic journey as we need to ensure your mouth is healthy. We will provide you with the dental treatment you may need prior to starting orthodontic treatment. If you leave dental problems and undergo orthodontic treatment, complex dental and orthodontic problems could arise in the future which could lead to tooth loss.
We offer various Invisalign® Packages, at your consultation the Doctor will be able to recommend which is best suited for your dental needs. The packages we offer are:
Completing consultation:
Our first step is to assess your dental health and determine if Invisalign® is the right option for you. During this consultation, we will also discuss your goals and expectations for treatment.
Clearing all necessary treatment:
Before starting your Invisalign® treatment, it is important to ensure that any existing dental issues, such as cavities or gum disease, are treated. This may involve procedures like fillings, root canals, or wisdom teeth removal.
Itero scanning:
Once we have determined that Invisalign® is a good option for you, we will use the latest digital technology to scan your teeth and create a 3D file of your teeth and bite. This is done using an iTero scanner, which is a painless and non-invasive process.
CBCT:
In addition to the iTero scanning, we will also take a Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) scan. CBCT has become a very important part of dentistry, especially when treatment planning and using it as a diagnostic tool.
We get to view up to 3 more different views of the mouth:
This helps our Doctors maximise the efficiency of the technology that we use at SmileBox so you can get more accurate simulation results, you get to see more detailed images of your teeth such as the real root renderings and bone visualisation and helps with more accurate Invisalign® treatment planning.
Steps 1-4 can be completed on the same day.
Design:
Once we have your 3D file and CBCT scan, all diagnostic tools including your photos, x-rays and CT scans are merged and calibrated for proper analysis.
Your Orthodontist will digitally design each of the tooth positions individually, this is to ensure that each tooth moves accurately and in line with the treatment plan, it involves moving the teeth up or down and modifying the side angulation and inclination of the teeth. Our SmileBox Orthodontists spend at least 5 hours per case doing this process.
During this stage, we will decide whether any other auxiliaries are needed during your orthodontic treatment. Such as SPBM, Elastics (button, hooks & jumps) miniscrews, and reverse pull headgear. Invisalign® also shows us the expected results if we plan to use elastics, this is so your Orthodontist and yourself can visualise the end results.
Your Orthodontist will design your attachments that will help keep your Invisalign® aligners in place and promote the movement of the teeth. These are custom designed for you individually, therefore the number and shape of attachments are different for each case.
Clincheck:
We will discuss the treatment plan with you and show you a digital simulation of what your smile will look like after completing Invisalign® treatment. This is a great opportunity to ask any questions you may have and ensure that you are comfortable with the treatment plan. You will also see how many trays are needed, which will tell you how long treatment time will be.
With the superimposition tool, you can see the before and after of your teeth – all in one frame!
Insert aligners:
On this day, our doctors will place attachments and show you how to wear and remove your trays. We will also teach you how to brush, floss, and clean your trays, and remind you how long you have to wear your trays and how often to change them (after how many days). During this visit, your orthodontist will also discuss the do’s and don’ts of Invisalign®, introduce you to the Invisalign app, and give you your trays!
Cleck to Read more About Your Invisalign® App (take to bottom part which will describe about invi app and has link to load)
Regular follow-ups:
Throughout your Invisalign® treatment, we will schedule regular follow-up appointments to check on your progress. This could be via in-office follow-ups which could be every 1-3 months, where we will ensure that your teeth are moving as planned, check your oral hygiene, and address any issues or concerns that may arise. We will also give you more aligners if required and we can answer any of your questions that you may have.
If you are not local to Bangkok, we can provide follow-up appointments via Virtual Appointment, either through our Virtual Consultation Programme or the Invisalign® Application.
After completing treatment:
Once your Invisalign® treatment is complete, we will remove your attachments and rescan your teeth to create your Vivera retainers. This ensures that your teeth remain in their new position and you can enjoy your new smile for years to come. With the Vivera Package, you will receive 3 sets of retainers. Having more sets prevents your retainers from breaking easily and also comes in handy if you misplace them!
