What are Dental Bridges?

Dental Bridges are used to fill a space or gap in your mouth as long as you have a healthy natural tooth of your own that can be used to hold the bridge in place. Dental bridges are custom-made, the clue is in the name. They ‘bridge’ one or more missing teeth. It involves replacing the missing tooth or filling the gap with a false tooth, that is bonded to your natural teeth on either side of the gap. We offer two types of Dental Bridges at SmileBox, Conventional and Removable.

Conventional Bridges are made up of a false tooth and one or more dental crowns. The dental
crowns are placed and cemented over the natural tooth at either side of the gap (where the
false tooth would be). This makes Conventional Bridges very durable, they last around 10 years.
However, these can be seen as a less conservative option as you have to reduce the natural
tooth size to make space for the crown.

Removable Dental Bridges are an oral appliance that replaces missing teeth by connecting to
the existing teeth using small hooks. They are also known as partial dentures. These are a
better option if you don’t want to commit to having a something fixed in your mouth.

We usually take an x-ray to assess the health of the teeth at either side of the space that you want to fill. This is so we make sure your teeth are in a stable, healthy condition before doing any dental treatment on or around them.

Dental Bridges can last at least 5 – 7 years. With good oral hygiene and regular dental examinations and cleaning, bridges can last more than 10 years.
